“How will I know what I think until I see what I say.”

Fane UK hosted Sunday Times bestselling author Jennette McCurdy at London’s Cadogan Hall last month for her only London event celebrating her highly anticipated debut novel, Half His Age.

In conversation with author, YouTuber and the internet’s resident librarian Jack Edwards—the evening delivered exactly what it promised: unfiltered, unforgettable, and completely absorbing.

After selling more than three million copies of her memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died worldwide, McCurdy brought her sharp, fearless voice to the stage to discuss her turn to fiction. Half His Age — a funny, sad, thrilling exploration of sex, class, desire, and power — was at the heart of the conversation, as Jennette delved into how a bullet train journey in Japan inspired the book, why she loves to write about spiky, complicated women, and how to discover your own writing style.

Before the night was out, she also shared her top reads:

Little Children by Tom Perrotta

My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

Flesh by David Szalay
